Giving Dhamma Service is one of the most valuable experiences a student of Vipassana can have. Not only is it rewarding to know that you have helped others to taste the nectar of Dhamma, but it is also a wonderful source of growth and strength for your own meditation practice.
Serving between courses
It’s a peaceful time between courses when the Centre is not overflowing with students and there is plenty of bed space if you want to stay over. There is much to do preparing the centre for the next course, but also time to enjoy and get to know the centre more intimately. There is time for service, walks on the land, meditation, and cooking and sharing meals with others, but most importantly, it’s a time to appreciate what you have learned here in the past.
Come for a day or more
You can come just for the day and go home with the person who drove you up, or, if you have the time, you can give yourself a real gift and stay on for another day or two. If you came up with someone else, we will get you to the bus stop.
How to register for serving between courses
Please visit the Course Schedule page to register online for a specific date.
If you have been practicing other meditation techniques since your last course, please sit another course (a 1-day, a 3-day or a full 10-day) before serving at the centre, to ensure you are clear about the practice.
Sharing rides with others
We have a rideshare system for the beginning of every between-course period (end of every course) to connect those who can offer rides, and those who need a ride to the centre. Check the Centre schedule to see the dates between courses.
You can sign up on the ride share board to offer a ride or to find a ride. Please follow the instructions provided in the acceptance Email of the course. It is an especially wonderful gift to those meditators who wish to come to the Centre, but do not have transportation. The bus schedule is quite minimal on Sundays, so sharing your car with others is a great way to serve.
